Coba: Creative Cuisine and Cocktails in Nice

Nestled on Rue Bonaparte, Coba is both a cocktail bar and a creative eatery where flavors from near and far meet in a playful, vibrant setting. The restaurant’s story reads like a piece of pulp fiction: a bold career change, a chance discovery of the space, and a leap into the unknown that paid off beautifully.

From Paris to the Côte d’Azur

Jennifer and Geoffrey hadn’t planned to change their lives, but after eight years in Paris and a near-zero professional activity during lockdown, they moved south. They stumbled upon a space for sale on Rue Bonaparte and, within three days, sealed the deal. The goal? To open a restaurant that reflected them—chic, warm, creative, and seasonally driven.

Renovated by designer Sophie Imbert, Coba—its name a fusion of “coriander” and “basil”—blends urban cool with cozy elegance: velvet terracotta banquettes, gold-toned lighting, and striking blue Klein-tiled walls set the mood.

Creative, Globally Inspired Cuisine

Chef Jennifer wields a masterful touch with seasonal ingredients. On a typical visit, one might encounter avocado fries tacos, refreshing dorade ceviche with strawberry marinade, perfectly cooked duck breast, and other international delights drawing from Asia, Mexico, and the Levant. French techniques shine through, with smooth purées, expertly cooked meats, and flavorful sauces. The only minor hiccup: the Pulpo Fiction Burger, which lacked a punch of flavor that day.

“We love surprising our guests and offering new flavor combinations,” says Jennifer, who ensures that every dish stays creative.

Cocktails with Character

The cocktail menu is as thoughtful and playful as the food. Even at midday, the atmosphere tempts you to indulge. The Pagnol—gin, basil-infused agave syrup, lime, and vineyard peach juice—is a standout, perfectly matching the warm, velvety interior.

Commitment to Quality

Coba prioritizes bio and locally sourced products, which come through in both taste and presentation. The combination of design, creativity, and quality ingredients makes for a unique culinary experience.

The Little Extra: The space’s hybrid nature allows for diverse experiences—from casual terrace lunches to festive evenings or afterwork drinks with friends.
