At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Hong Kong made a dazzling impression with the much-anticipated Hong Kong Night, a glamorous event celebrating the city’s vibrant film industry and its cultural connections worldwide.
Held on May 16 at the iconic Plage des Palmes, the evening brought together over 600 film professionals, including producers, directors, actors, distributors, and cultural representatives. The presence of renowned Hong Kong talents such as director Soi Cheang and actors Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, Tony Wu, and German Cheung underscored the city’s commitment to showcasing its cinematic excellence on the global stage.
One of the event’s highlights was the premiere of Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, which received a standing ovation during its midnight screening. This milestone marked the return of a Hong Kong film to Cannes after an 11-year absence, symbolizing a revitalization of the region’s dynamic film scene.
Beyond celebration, Hong Kong Night also served as a platform for strengthening international partnerships. A significant achievement was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Create Hong Kong and France’s Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée. This agreement is set to deepen collaboration in film and television production, fostering creative exchanges and co-productions between the two regions.
The success of Hong Kong Night at Cannes 2025 highlights Hong Kong’s renewed role as a key player in international cinema. With its rich heritage and forward-looking partnerships, Hong Kong continues to inspire and influence the global film community.
